I have arrived in the wild west... Denmark... where men (or a man and a newspaper) drew the muslim prophet and witches are burned on a fire on St. Hans night... wild, isn't it?
When I last wrote Linda and me were on our way to Srinagar in Kashmir. Some maybe get a little twitter when they read Kashmir because of the tension that has been there in the past and the terrorist attacks, but that is something to not think about when you have the flight ticket in your hand. The beautiful Himalayan landscape helped to spread the mind on the way though, but sadly we were not allowed to take our cameras with us into the plane so no pics from that. The security at the airport was massive and the usual red carpet treatment that we got from the taxidrivers in other areas was not there... weird...
The security is high and most of the street corners are manned with police men or soldiers which seem to be bored out of their lifes so they spilt their time finding new poses with their guns and picking their nose. Couple of years ago the tourism crashed because of the threat of terrorism but now is slowly building up again. The main attractions of the area are the hill stations with their beautiful scenery but since Linda and I felt we already filled our high altitude quota we decided to stay in a houseboat on Dal Lake. It was sweeeeet...

SVO ANAEGD MED HEIMALAGADA MATINN A HUSBATNUM
SOOO HAPPY WITH THE HOME MADE FOOD WE GOT ON THE HOUSBOAT
The homemade food was the best about the boat but it was made by the father of the owner. All the family lives in another boat just behind the one that is rented out and they are building the 3rd one so one can say that the tourism is blossoming. As Linda and I were saving money, and didn't want to pay 10 rupees for each time we wanted to go ashore, we instead used the other way in... not a very secure one...
LINDA A LEIDINNI INN
LINDA ON HER WAY INTO THE BOAT
Kashmir is only the state in India with muslim majority and because of that the atmosphere is a little different than other places in India. Women are not much around and hair and face covers and bhurkas are very visible. We went to a beautiful mosque but as our dresscode was not good enough, we got these nice dresses...

Thar sem skolarnir eru i sumarfrii flykkjast indversku fjolskyldurnar til fjallanna og safnast svo audvitad saman, helst a sama fermetranum, og borda, tala hatt og fara i taugarnar a okkur utlendingunum... eg meina, i gardi thar sem thad er nooooog af plassi sitja allir saman helst a somu torfunni... er thetta ekki pinu fyndid?
As the schools are having sommervacations now the Indian families seek shelter from the sun in the mountains and gather there, preferrably at the same square meter, talk loudly and irritate us foreigners... by that I mean that in a big park, where there is enough of space, everybody gathers on a small spot and pack up their packed lunches with the feet of someone in their side...
ALLIR SVO GLADIR SAMAN
EVERYBODY SO HAPPY TOGETHER
Of course we didn´t let the oppertunity of a calm and quiet boatride on the mirror like lake slip us by and hired a young boy to sail around with us for an hour for 60 rupees... and that on a Friday in a muslim state... o ohhhh... poor guy, dressed in a very nice salwar kamez, should rather have been in the mosque at that time. He sailed in a big round and talked all the time... at the end we knew where all the rich Germans stayed and the name and the address of an Indian who was married to a foreigner... very important...

On our way to the airport the brother took us in a boat that was not so good... that ment that Spola needed to grab a cup and pour the water out so luggage, shoes or feet of foreign madams didn´t get wet... and no those of you wondering if the luggage was to heavy, it wasn´t so much to heavy.... ;o)
